Rescue #50 - Arlo is a 16 month old gorgeous boy whose family didn't have enough time to spend with him so they did what was best in order to find him the right home. Arlo loves other dogs but does have some separation anxiety and we are working on housebreaking. He still needs to be neutered but should be ready for a forever home in a month or so.
Rescue # 45 Mabel is said to be a Jack Russell Dachshund mix who is six years old. Her teeth are beautiful and our vet thinks she may be younger. She has a very arched spine which is due to her hip dysplasia. She is being treated for Lyme disease too.
Rescue #46. Etta is about 12 years old and came to us with two other senior doxies. All were very malnourished. Etta had a dental, was spayed, and had a benign mammary tumor removed. She was named for the singer Etta James and she is quite vocal so the name fits!
Rescue #49 Finley came to us at less than three months old after an accidental break to his femur. He has had surgery and is recovering nicely. We have already received a large number of applications and are processing them to find him the best forever home after his is fully recovered.
Rescue #44 Peggy Sue is a stray who was captured by a Good Samaritan. She is estimated to be about ten but that is just a guess. She had her dental and spay and has a clean bill of health. She is very sweet and a quick learner (learned the dog door in a day!). She is quite the teenager - likes to sleep and lie around the house! She gives the best kisses and loves to get scratches and be cuddled. The perfect lap dog!
Rescue #42. Thelma is eight years old and was surrendered because her owner was spending very long days away from her. We have a vet visit scheduled and will post more as we get to know her.
Rescue #41 Little Man. Little Man is about 13 years old and has several tumors on his underside in addition to a mouthful of rotten teeth. He has surgery scheduled in the next couple of weeks.
Rescue #40 Oswald. Oswald is a young dog who came to us with a broken leg. Sadly his previous owner waited before surrendering him so we aren't sure how we are going to deal with this injury, since it may be too old to correct. We have a consultation with an orthopedic doctor to determine the best course of action. We thank the shelter for contacting us immediately so this little guy didn't have to spend one night in the shelter.
Rescue # 53 Margo is from a local shelter - she was a stray in desperate need of a grooming and vetting. She is estimated to be about ten years old and is just the sweetest little thing. Not phased by other dogs, housebroken, and her happy place is with her person. We will soon be getting her spayed and she will also have a dental.
Rescue #38 - Macy and Gidget came to us after their owner lost her home. Little Macy has some awful teeth and ended up having 16 teeth pulled. While recovering she has scratched her cornea and we will be seeing a specialist in a week. Macy is 15 years old and only weighs about 8 pounds. Her favorite place is in your lap.
Rescue #37 Esther Rose - Esther is 15 and was surrendered to the shelter to be euthanized because of "allergies". She is extremely malnourished and has a horrible mouth infection. We are slowly trying to put weight on her and are very saddened that her humans allowed her to get to this condition.
PUPDATE - Esther has gained almost anot
Rescue #37 Esther Rose - Esther is 15 and was surrendered to the shelter to be euthanized because of "allergies". She is extremely malnourished and has a horrible mouth infection. We are slowly trying to put weight on her and are very saddened that her humans allowed her to get to this condition.
PUPDATE - Esther has gained almost another 50% of her weight and had a successful dental - she is ready for a forever home!
Rescue #39 - Gidget age 15. Gidget came to us when her owner lost her home and sadly couldn't take Gidget or Macy with her. These girls are not bonded and we are happy to report Gidget has been adopted!
Rescue #35 - Linus - age 1 1/2 years
Linus was picked up as a stray and was not doing well in the shelter and as soon as he was out of that environment, a playful pup emerged. He has been doing amazing in his manners class and is ready for a forever home. He would love a dog buddy and a fenced yard.
PUPDATE - Linus graduated from Basic Manners class and has been adopted!
Rescue #33 Barney #2
Barney #2 is two years old and came to us after his owner had some health issues and could no longer care for him. He loves toys and we are working on housebreaking and socialization.
Rescue #32 Spike, age 5 1/2
Spike's owner turned him into the shelter because he had a very large mass on his leg. She requested he be euthanized but thankfully the shelter staff opted to get the mass looked at. We did learn it is cancer but it's a low grade so we think his prognosis is good. Spike is very smart and quite the little charmer. His happy place is in your lap..
Rescue #31 Miss Lottie, age 13.
Miss Lottie was turned into the shelter because her owner couldn't afford her care. She is 13 years old and doesn't look a day over 4 - except for those bad teeth! She also has a hard mass on her chest. We have her dental, spay, and mass removal scheduled and she willl be ready for her forever home. A tiny girl with a big personality!
Rescue #30 - Finnegan is about a year old. He has short legs, wonky ears, and a goofy personality. We recently did a DNA test on him and he has zero dachshund! He is a combination of Bassett, Chow, Pug, and Miniature Schnauzer with a bunch of other breeds mixed in. He will be getting some training before he is adopted because is is very high energy.
Rescue #29 Barney - age 1
Barney found himself abandoned at the shelter and unfortunately had not had any vet care. We were asked if could take him and we did. We are not able to share his image as he is part of a protective custody case but he is safe and living in a wonderful home.
Rescue #28 Mr. Piddles, age 12ish. This poor little man found himself in the shelter not once, but twice. He was turned in because he doesn't like to be picked up. He was seen by our vet and is on heart meds for the rest of his life but he is a little doll. He was adopted and has canine and human siblings now.
Chip and Cannoli came to us after they were left abandoned in an apartment. They had severe skin allergies and Chip had a very large lipoma on his leg which has since been removed. They are on a special Rx lowfat gastrointestinal diet and will need to remain on that. Bonded pair - must be adopted together. They are 10 years old.
Floyd is 12 and had a massive perineal hernia repaired a couple of years ago and was returned to us when his mom passed away. He is on a special Rx food that is not inexpensive and he needs to stay on this food. He also takes a stool softener (very inexpensive). He loves EVERYONE and never has a bad day!
Rescue# 27 Roxy, Age 4 4/13/21
Sweet little five pound four year old Roxie was surrendered to the shelter because she wasn't housebroken. She hasn't had any accidents in her foster home and she is now a foster fail because her foster mom decided to keep her!
Rescue # 26- Sebastien
Sebastien was listed as a stray in an area shelter. He is about 12 years old and is very independent. He gets along with other dogs but doesn't interact much. He is generally quiet uniess he has to go to the outside or is hungry. He has several fatty cysts but all are benign. He is not a cuddler but is a sweet old man.
Rescue # 25 - NICKY
Nicky is just under a year old and was surrendered to a shelter because of behavioral issues. Can't really blame him because as we understand it, he was tormented by the kids in the house and kept in the kitchen away from everyone. We gave him time to decompress and have done some training and now we see a sweet young

Nicky is just under a year old and was surrendered to a shelter because of behavioral issues. Can't really blame him because as we understand it, he was tormented by the kids in the house and kept in the kitchen away from everyone. We gave him time to decompress and have done some training and now we see a sweet young dog. Nicky is a dachshund shih tzu mix and we named him after Officer Brian Sicknick who lost his life as a result of the Capitol siege. We are currently working on additional socialization with Nicky and he should be available soon. He will need a home with another young dog and no children.
Rescue # 23 - Lukas
13 year old Lukas came to us when his owner's living arrangements changed. He is a tiny little guy and has found a wonderful home with two other dachshunds. His new mom and dad share pictures so we can send them to his mom and keep her updated on him.
Rescue #21 - Benny 11/15/20, Age 4
Benny was a stray in an area shelter. He is a mix of some sort - dachshund and some type of hound we think. We can't believe his owners didn't claim him. He is the sweetest pup - house broken, crate trained, knows how to sit and is learning to shake. He is such a gem of a boy! He has a doxie body and l

He is the sweetest pup - house broken, crate trained, knows how to sit and is learning to shake. He is such a gem of a boy! He has a doxie body and longer legs and weighs about 18 pounds. We think this boy needs another dog friend and a fenced yard.
Rescue # 17-DUNCAN
Duncan was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. We found him a wonderful home with JOMDR Percy. He has a human sister and brother and is spoiled by the entire family. We are so happy for our Duncan Munchkin!
Rescue # 16-BAILEY
She is an older gal who came to us with Riley, Bailey found her forever home and is living with our Lainey.
Rescue # 14- LAINEY
Lainey was turned into the shelter with her mom Estelle. We determined that it was best if the two girls went their separate ways so Lainey is now living her best life with JOMDR Bailey.
Rescue # 13- ESTELLE
Estelle was rescued with her daughter Lainey. Estelle can be a bit of a bully but her new mom is working with her on this and has decided she needs to stay with her permanently! Happy new life Estelle!
Rescue # 12- DEWEY
Dewey is estimated to be between 10 and 12. He was picked up as a stray in Baltimore County earlier this year. No one came forward for him so we scooped him up. Dewey is on a high fiber diet and walks with a funny little gait. His favorite place is in your lap and he loves sleeping in the big bed. We love that he was

Rescue #8 - Charlie 5/17/19, Age 11
Charlie was rescued from an area shelter. His owner said he was overly protective of her and would nip at anyone near her. Rescue #8 - Charlie 5/17/19, Age 11
Charlie was rescued from an area shelter. His owner said he was overly protective of her and would nip at anyone near her. We (and the shelter) have not seen any behavior like that but we will certainly work with Charlie to determine the best forever family for him. So far he loves toys and he is said to love other dogs. He has been introduced to the other dogs and gets along fine with all of them.. He appears to have some skin issues but a good diet should clear that up. He is heart worm negative and his owner kept him up to date with vaccines. Charlie recently had a dental and lost nine teeth but he is taking it in stride. He is an all around very happy little man and he loves to cool off in the kiddie pool. Charlie is off to start his new life in southern Maryland and we couldn't be happier for him!
Stanley is 16 years young. He is blind and is currently on eye meds. Very sweet boy. Housebroken. Loves to go for walks.
Rescue # 6 - Rocco 02/28/19, age 10 1/2
He found himself back in the shelter not once but twice after being adopted a few years ago. He started out very quiet but quickly settled in with all the other dogs and like any dachshund, can be quite vocal. He is a sweet, sweet boy and for the life of me, I can't figure out why he was in the shelter twice. He is on our Biggest Loser JOMDR Style diet as he needs to drop a few pounds. Once he loses that weight, his forever home will be with a retired couple.
Rescue #5 - Percy. 1/15/19, age 5
Persey, now known as Percy is a chiweenie whose owners' family situation changed and were unable to care for her.
Percy is now spayed and enjoying her forever home and is being spoiled by her mom, dad, sister, and baby brother.
Her grandma crochets her the cutest sweaters!
Rescue #4 - Karley. 12/22/18, age 5
Karley spent the first year and a half living in a barn before her previous owner saved her from that life. Sadly her owner has become ill and is no longer able to care for her.She is a very sweet cream wire haired girl who just wants to be on your lap. She has lost a few pounds and also six teeth during her dental and is currently being treated for Lyme disease and a parasite. She is now enjoying the good life with several other dachshunds.
Rescue #3 - Mollie. 12/22/18, age 14
Mollie is a tiny girl at just over ten pounds. She is currently being treated for a couple of different parasites and had a much needed dental (but didn't lose any teeth!). Mollie was rescued first in 2016 after her young owner went off to college and it was determined she had been allergic. Mollie has spent the last two years in a loving home with lots of fur siblings but sadly her owner has become ill and can no longer care for her. Mollie has a beautiful coat and gets along so well for an older gal. When it's meal time, she actually runs to her bowl! Mollie is now enjoying retirement in a small town along the Chesapeake Bay with her mom, brother, and two dogs. UPDATE - sadly we lost Mollie in 2021 but she lived a long and happy life and was spoiled!
Rescue #2 - Chase. 12/13/18, age 11
Chase was surrendered to an area shelter when his divorcing family decided they couldn't take on his medical expenses and requested that he be euthanized. He came to us with a skin infection, a mass on his chest, some of the worst teeth we've seen which caused his lower jaw to erode, an eye infection, and red and swollen feet. But he is a complete sweetheart - tail is always wagging. Thanks to our wonderful donors, he has been fully vetted and is on the mend. Our vet was even able to save some of his teeth. He does have chronic dry eye which requires ointment twice daily in his eyes for the rest of his life.
He is going to a wonderful family with three other dogs including another dachshund.
Rescue #1 - Emmitt. 10/29/18, age 10 months.
Emmitt's former owner didn't have time for a high energy puppy. He was well loved and very well cared for. After getting him neutered, he quickly found a forever home.
He now lives on a farm with another dachshund , a lab puppy who has become his BFF, a cat, and some horses. He gets to play with a lot of grandkids and has a huge yard. He is a very happy boy and his new vet says he has "Arnold Schwarzenegger thighs"!
Rescue # 19 - Rescued 8/8/20Guinness is 16 and he and a 13 year old shiba inu were abandoned in the woods in Anne Arundel County. The shelter asked if we could take them both so we did. Guinness has a heart murmur and just had a dental to get rid of some nasty teeth. He is a gentle little old man.
Rescue #36 - Lilly - age 15.Lilly was surrendered to a shelter to be euthanized after a back injury. Well we don't give up that easily. She is responding to laser therapy and we anticipate she will walk again. PUPDATE - Lilly is walking!
Rescue # 24-CHARLIE BROWN
Charlie Brown is 11 and came to us when his owner went into assisted living. He had a seizure and we learned his calcium levels were way out of whack causing him neurological problems. After some meds and some time, he is doing so much better. He is very vocal and active. He should be ready for a new home soon - waiting on more bloodwork. He will need medicine for the rest of his life. We send frequent updates to his previous family.
UPDATE - sadly we lost Chip in October 2024. He had a very fast growing mass on his abdomen and declined quickly.
Chip and Mel are bonded 14 year old brothers. Both are losing their vision as they age so will need to be adopted together. Mel is also an IVDD survivor and he is doing fantastic. Both boys are very loving and are good with other dogs. Once vetted, they will be ready for their retirement home.
RESCUE #20
Rescued 8/8/20.
Jameson is a 13 year old shiba inu. She and Guinness, a 16 year old dachshund, were abandoned by their owner in the woods. Guinness was captured and a day or so later Jameson was caught in a trap. Both dogs were taken to the shelter and we were asked to take both of them. Jameson had a couple of mammary tumors and needed a dental. We had the tumors removed, spayed her, got her up to date on shots, and she had a dental. The doctors determined the tumors were a mild form of breast cancer and they are confident it won't return. She is a sweet girl who who has found a shiba inu savvy home in southern Maryland. UPDATE SUMMER 2021 - Jamie had some lumps return so we had her checked out and thankfully none are cancerous. Her family thinks the world of her!
Rescue #48. Frida was one of three senior dachshunds left at an area shelter. Like the others, she was malnourished and in need of medical care. She has an unusual scar that goes diagonally down her stomach and an obstruction in her gall bladder but it isn't causing any issues. We are trying to get some weight on her so she can have a dental and spay. We think she may have been abused because she is extremely shy and flinches when she sees your hands - but we are making progress!
PUPDATE - Frida was scheduled for a dental and a spay but additional bloodwork showed she was very sick and could not undergo anesthesia. She went downhilll very quickly but we hugged her and kissed her as we said good bye.
Rescue #47 Hedy came to us with two other senior dachshunds. All three were malnourished and seriously neglected. Hedy has very high liver and kidney values, very bad teeth, and she needs to be spayed. We are putting weight on and hoping that she can undergo surgery soon. She was just over six pounds when she was rescued - but the tail never stops wagging. UPDATE - we recently lost Hedy - her organs were shutting down and she was losing weight. The years of neglect were too much for her little body to handle. Run free little lady.
Rescue # 43 Sadie Lynn is 12 years old and blind. She found herself without a home after her mom became ill and her dad moved into a community that didn't allow pets. She has not yet been spayed and subsequently has several mammary tumors. She also needs a dental. She was adopted but returned after her adopters felt her needs were too great. Sadie will only go to a home that is experienced with newly blind dogs.
PUPDATE - Sadly we only had Sadie Lynn for 13 days. She stopped eating and was admitted to the hospital. After spending a few days there and undergoing tests, it was determined she had a large mass in her intestine. Because of her health issues, the humane decision was to let her go. We miss her greatly and wish we could have saved her sooner.
Rescue # 10 Prince 9/13/19 Age 13 Our local shelter reached out to us when they received a senior dachshund who was surrendered due to an owner with medical issues. Prince is a little guy who has severe dental disease. The shelter knew it was unlikely he would be adopted due to the anticipated cost of caring for his teeth. We gladly said we would take him and are so glad we did. He is a spry and very well behaved little boy but has recently started to shows signs of dementia. UPDATE - we lost Prince to what our vet thinks was sepsis after two years of loving him. Fly high little buddy.
Rescue #7 = Rosie 4/13/19, age 11
Rosie was in a very loving home for her entire life but she lost her human dad last year and her elderly mom could no longer care for her. As you can see she is overweight - her weight is currently just shy of 26 pounds and she will need to lose ten pounds. She will be in long term foster care while we get her back in shape. Having a dachshund that much overweight reduces their life span and puts so much additional pressure on their joints and back.
UPDATE - we lost Rosie on 4.26.19. Rosie had not eaten for a few days so our vet did an X-ray and determined she had liver cancer. She had been sick for awhile and it went undiagnosed. Fly high sweet girl. Though we only knew you for 13 days, you were certainly one of the sweetest dogs ever. You will be forever in our hearts and the next dog we rescue will be in your honor. <3
Rescue #9 - Jax aka Jackson T. 8/04/19, Age 4 dachshund/spaniel mix
We rescued Jax from an area shelter where he was listed as abandoned. He showed some aggression when he was in the shelter but I chalked it up to the stress of being in that environment. Sadly that stress turned to more aggression so we spent a few months on training and keeping him separated from the rest of the dogs. No matter how hard you try, some animals are wired differently. We could not risk him biting a child so we decided to let him go and rid him of that anxiety and fear. This was a very difficult decision to make.
Rescue #34 Oscar age 13 Oscar was surrendered to our local shelter when his owner had to deal with personal issues. Our vet noticed an internal mass and it was determined he has liver cancer. We are going to spoil him for as long as we can. Our gentle giant weighs 40 pounds!
Rescue # 11 - Mason 10/25/19. Age 15 Shadow, now known as Mason, was surrendered to an area shelter because his owners said he couldn't hold his bladder. This boy had tapeworms, a severe flea allergy, a skin infection, severe cataracts, hearing loss, and some nasty teeth. But despite all that, the doctor says he is in great health.and we need to get a little bit of weight on him. We just found out his birthday is November 26 2004 so he is younger than we were originally told. He wears a belly band at night but rarely has an accident. He is a sweet boy and gets around great for his age - he has the funniest little gait.
Sadly we lost Mason on 9/21/20. The doctor thinks a tendon to his heart ruptured and the prognosis was very poor. He woke up that morning with labored breathing and no appetite - definitely not our Mason. With COVID we are so grateful we were able to hold him as we let him go. Fly high little wind up toy!
Rescue # 15- RILEY She came to us with an eye injury and had to have a very expensive eye surgery - a corneal graft. She was quite lethargic so our vet did some additional tests and determined she has a liver shunt. Because of this we don't want to risk putting her under anesthesia again so she is on a couple of meds and a strict hepatic diet. Riley became a sanctuary dog and we had about nine months of her sweet self.
Rescue # 18-AUGIE Augie was picked up as a stray in Anne Arundel County and no one came forward for him. He is an older boy but is sweet as can be. He is up to date on shots and just had a dental - 19 teeth pullled. He is feeling so much better. He is a very quiet boy.
Sadly on October 23rd we took Augie to our vet because he hadn't eaten much over the last two days. He also had discharge from his eyes and nose. We did bloodwork and xrays and it was determined his lungs and body were filled with infection and he likely had lung cancer and possibly a brain tumor. This was very aggressive and his prognosis was quite poor. The vet felt that he was suffering so we made the tough decision to let him go. RIP Augie Doggie 10.23.20
Rescue #22 - Buddy 11/21/20, age 7
Buddy was an owner surrender whose elderly owner became ill and could no longer care for Buddy. We only wish we could have rescued Buddy sooner. In less than a day after meeting him, we took him to our vet only to learn he was in end stage kidney failure as well as Lyme and ehrlichia positive. We were told he was suffering and his chances of recovery were only 5-10%. Buddy you only had seven years on this earth and only one day with us but we loved you unconditionally. Fly high sweet boy!
